The
beetle is one of the most common insect in the world. Beetle has a pair of
front wings which protect their long or round shaped body. Most beetles are
solitary. They are found in almost all types of habitats, but are not known to
be exist in the sea or in the polar regions.
Like all insects, beetle’s body are
divided into three sections; the head, the thorax and abdomen. They have a very
solid and ought body. Beetles have chewing mouthparts and often powerful jaws.
Adult beetles have modified wings: the first pair of wing is small and very
hard and act as a protective cover for the second pair of wings.
Beetles have four different stages
of life cycle; egg, larva, pupa, adult. Adult female beetles mate and lay eggs.
The eggs hatch into a wingless larva. The larvae feed and grow, and change into
a pupa stage. The pupa does not move or feed. Then, the pupa transforms into an
adult beetle.
Beetles often communicate with each other with chemicals.
Males often locate females by their scent. Some beetles make sounds by scraping
their mouth parts together or rubbing their legs on their bodies.
